Many domestic and international trains discharge passengers at the Stazione Ferroviaria Santa Lucia, an incongruously modern but efficient railway station in the historic center, next to the causeway that leads to the mainland.

As they leave the station's main entrance, they head toward the floating waterbus platforms. Buy a ticket before boarding the No. 1 vaporetto, which makes stops all along the Grand Canal, or the No. 2 express boat to San Marco.

Another (and much more expensive) option is to take a water taxi to your hotel.

Alberto Prosdocimi (September 9, 1852 – 1925) was an Italian painter and manuscript illuminator. He often painted vedute of Venice in pale and bright watercolors.

He studied painting at the Accademia of Venice, but also trained in the studio of his father. He often painted in watercolor, but like his father, he was a respected manuscript illuminator. He copied the Grimani Breviary held in the Library of San Marco at Venice.

He completed the diplomas of honor awarded by Florence to their mayor Peruzzi factory. He was commissioned by Queen Margherita to create an illuminated portrait of the Prince of Naples. He also made an elaborately illuminated album by the aristocracy of Padua and Verona as a gift to the Queen. He was engaged to tutor in painting the Princess Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen and of the hereditary Granduchess of Granduchessa Holdemburg. The latter commissioned some watercolors from him. St Mark's Basilica is the cathedral church of the Catholic Patriarchate of Venice. Its model was the sixth-century Church of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople, although accommodations were made to adapt the design to the limitations of the physical site and to meet the specific needs of Venetian state ceremonies. Middle-Byzantine, Romanesque, and Islamic influences are also evident, and Gothic elements were later incorporated. More on St Mark's Basilica
